«I can’t thank them enough for this,» Curry expressed. «I’m just a country boy from Grottoes, man. I had no idea that this was even happening. I cannot explain how grateful, blessed, fortunate I am to be here in this moment.»
The momentous occasion saw Curry surrounded by his loving family, including his NBA-star sons Stephen and Seth, both of the Golden State Warriors, his daughter Sydel, wife Nicki, his mother Juanita, and his six grandchildren. Key team officials, co-chairmen Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin, also attended.

Now 61, Dell Curry dedicated 10 of his 16 NBA seasons to Charlotte, notably being the last original player from the franchise’s 1988 expansion draft to depart after the 1997-98 season. His remarkable contributions included winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award in 1994.
Upon leaving the Hornets, Curry held franchise records for games played (701), total points (9,839), and three-pointers made (929). While he still proudly holds the record for most games played with the franchise, he now ranks second in both scoring and three-pointers, behind Kemba Walker.
The ceremony featured heartfelt video tributes from former teammates like Larry Johnson, Muggsy Bogues, and Glen Rice, along with touching messages from his children. Beyond his playing career, Curry has been a familiar voice as a TV color commentator for the Hornets since 2009, currently in his 11th season in the booth.
Further enhancing the celebration, North Carolina Governor Josh Stein attended a pregame reception, where he presented Curry with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of the state’s most prestigious civilian honors. A significant donation was also made to the Boys and Girls Club of America in his name.
