Barcelona may face challenges in finding a successor for Robert Lewandowski this summer, as the veteran striker is expected to depart. Doubts linger regarding Barcelona’s financial capacity and willingness to secure an elite striker. Consequently, their initial priority target has reportedly shifted.
Initially, Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez was rumored to be the target, but the reported cost of his acquisition has seemingly deterred the Catalan club. As a result, their focus has moved to Joao Pedro for the number nine position. However, Chelsea is reportedly unwilling to part with the Brazilian, demanding a minimum of €100 million for his transfer.
Manchester City makes Omar Marmoush available
According to The Daily Briefing, Manchester City is reportedly open to negotiating a deal for Omar Marmoush this summer for a fee in the region of €60-65 million. The Egyptian forward, who has had limited playing time, was previously linked with Barcelona as a potential option for the center-forward role earlier in the season. While Marmoush is not actively seeking a move, he would be amenable to leaving if an appealing offer arises.
Barcelona’s interest in Marmoush
While Barcelona has been credited with interest in Marmoush, Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa have previously explored signing him. Given that Marmoush was acquired for €75 million 18 months ago and has experienced an unproductive period at Manchester City, Barcelona might believe they can negotiate his price down. The 27-year-old still has three years remaining on his contract.
Marmoush possesses versatility and the ability to link play in midfield, but his goal-scoring record may not align with Barcelona’s expectations. In 59 appearances for City, Marmoush has scored 16 goals and provided six assists. Furthermore, his profile differs significantly from Pedro or Lewandowski, suggesting that Hansi Flick might be seeking a more physically imposing number nine.
