Memphis Depay, the Dutch international, has defended his new music video, which depicts the Corinthians headquarters engulfed in flames, as a mere artistic expression, despite a recent contract dispute with the Brazilian club.

The former Manchester United forward had recently agreed to a significant pay reduction to remain with Corinthians. This decision came shortly after the club opted not to renew his contract.

However, Depay has now faced criticism for releasing the music video for his song 'Don't Panic'. The video was released just one day after Depay helped Corinthians advance to the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals. The video appears to allude to his recent disagreements with the club, showing him observing the club's administrative center, Parque Sao Jorge, on fire.

While Depay does not explicitly name anyone in the song, he mentions 'rivals' and sings about having "a vice-president who is now my enemy."

Corinthians fans are currently voicing their discontent with the club's management due to mounting financial and governance problems. To mitigate any potential negative reactions to the video, Depay stated on social media that it was filmed "months ago," aiming to de-escalate the situation before further protests.

Depay emphasized his stance, stating, "I hope it's a peaceful protest where people can express what they think calmly. Regarding my music, I insist it's just art."

Addressing the imagery of the club's headquarters burning, the Dutchman reiterated his opposition to "any type of violence whatsoever."
